Day trip tip
Hidden deep in the forests of the Elzbach valley stands one of the most famous castles in the world: Eltz Castle. It once graced Germany’s 500-mark bill; today it’s one of the most photographed sights around and an Instagram favorite among travel bloggers.
The castle is open daily from April to November. You’ll need a day ticket and should expect a wait. On busy days, it’s best to arrive before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.
From our vacation homes, the parking lot is about 20–25 minutes by car, or 40–60 minutes along the scenic Mosel bike path.
Around Eltz Castle, you’ll find beautiful hiking trails and a fairy-tale setting.
